How GuruMaharaj had darshan of Varaha Narasimha

How I Saw His Form
from H.H. Jayapataka Swami

In Andhra Pradesh there is the Deity of Varaha Narasimha. Prahlad requested Nrsimhadev, "I would like to see the form of You that liberated my uncle, Hiranyaksha." So the Lord manifested His Varaha form. He is Nrsimhadev with the head of Varaha. It's a Varaha Narasimha human form. Very unusual.

This form is covered all year long with sandalwood. Every three months they have 45 kilos of sandalwood paste. For twelve hours a year, the Deity is uncovered. You can imagine what the rush is like to see the Deity. For twelve hours in the whole year the Deity is uncovered. And then He is covered again--looks like a big egg. I had seen Him like this but I never saw the Lord's form, which is visible only twelve hours a year.

The temple president there, he knew how to attract me. He said, "You come here for our ground breaking of our temple, and on this particular day we will arrange for you the darshan of the Deity."

He said it's all arranged. You don't have to wait. No eight hours que. You will come right up. He took me up. I went through all the access gates. I had a special pass. I got right up, and I said, "Wow, this is really Krsna's mercy." And there the police officer looked up and said, "I don't care for this."

And there I was stuck at the last gate. You see, Krsna never makes it easy. So I was praying, "Krsna, pleaes, we want your darshan." The temple president climbed over the barracade that they'd erected and he saw the executive officer, the EO. He said, "Today we hand over to the police, but I'll let him in." Somehow he got the door opened. I was let in the last gate. They let me go behind the altar. They could only hold twenty people and they came, took the darshan, and went. Somehow I was allowed to enter into the Deity room. I could see, from four feet away, the Varaha Nrsimha Murti which is millions of years old. And I was there for a long time. I was there for fifteen minutes. Then someone noticed, "Hey. What's he doing there? Come outside." Then I was taken out. So like that we had some very nice blessings from different deities.

Hare Krishna,

Many devotees have been thanking me for posting this blog. I thank all the devotees for their kind appreciation and encouragement. Actually after reading this pastime, my devotion towords GM has increased and my intention of posting this was to give pleasure to all the Vaishnavas, especially to my god-brothers and god-sisters. Some of the devotees are also asking me to take them to "Simhachalam" for the darshan of Lord Varaha Narasimha. By Guru and Gauranga's mercy we may soon be there too.

yours in the service of Guru and Gauranga,

Sugathi Krishna Dasa
